Rebellious Retail

I went exploring armed with my camera with Illuminate: Collective to different shops and businesses in Nottingham including Debbie Bryan, Handmade Nottingham, Nottingham Contemporary, Dukki and the National Justice Museum.

Illuminate are embarking on a project to create a product to sell based around themes of rebellion. Nottingham Castle's heritage-lottery-funded transformation will begin next year and will introduce new galleries exploring Rebellion. The item Illuminate produces is designed to be sold in Nottingham Castle's shops when it reopens.

I followed their journey as we discovered hand-made gems, cosy independent shops and interesting artefacts. Here's their story:
